Sven-Åke Johansson is an eminent composer and musician, poet and visual artist, writer and initiator of numerous music and performance art productions. Being a major stylistic forerunner within improvisational music, Sven-Åke Johansson developed a European form of free jazz in the 1960s. Over the years, he has worked with many renowned musicians within the field of experimental and avant-garde music; Peter Brötzmann, Alexander von Schlippenbach and Sonic Youth being some of them. Sven-Åke Johansson is especially known for working with unusual but at the same time everyday objects as sources for compositions, exemplified by works like “Overture for Handheld Fire Extinguishers” and “Concert for 12 tractors”. At Intonal, however, he’ll be focusing on cardboard boxes. And it’ll be great.
Sven-Åke Johansson will perform as part of the special program Laut-Gesten-Laute curated by Nguyen Phuong-Dan.He is also featured in the film When There Was A Tractor Concert in Brösarp, more info on this in the Talks + More section.
