Semay Wu is a musician, composer and sound artist now living in Falkirk, Scotland. Originally from Liverpool, she ended up in Manchester to study at the Royal Northern College of Music. Her career path developed towards performance-based practices – concerts, touring bands, recordings, improvisations and electronics; and cross-platform disciplines were absorbed - composing for film, devised theatre and dance. Recently, she lived in The Netherlands and finished a two year Masters in Music with the Institute of Sonology and STEIM. Her interests lie in the Space and Place between articulations of gesture, the space/tension it holds, choreographical concepts, and what emerges through the social aspects that presents us with the curious improvisational question, ‘How do we place ourselves in our space?’ Semay Wu is the initiator of the New Emergences lecture and discussion series, based in The Hague.
