’Dirty ambient’ band O Yuki Conjugate formed in Nottingham in 1982 as part of the post punk DIY scene and has since released ten albums and retrospectives that, according to their amusing bio, ”…together have earned them literally hundreds of pounds”. OYC describe themselves as the missing link between punk and ambient, reflecting their outsider attitude and DIY ethic. Certainly darker and less polished than last year’s Black Box favourite Alessandro Cortini, OYC still operates within the same realm of hypnagogic expression. This is accentuated by the backing visuals created by filmmaker Hulme that presents a dream-like narrative closely tied to OYC’s live music.
