Listening to Liz Harris aka Grouper’s emotionally penetrating music kind of gives you the urge not to talk or write about it. It feels like her songs were made specifically for you and it would sort of be a betrayal to blabber about them. Liz ended an interview in 2014 with Fact with this quote: “Once a song has left me I want it to belong to whoever finds it. I write a song about feeling isolated. Listeners know the song is about their mother dying, the birth of their child, the way their last relationship ended. All these things and more. An open door.” Limitation as a vehicle for creativeness, simplicity as a vehicle for intimacy. This is what Grouper has perfected.
