Osaka based Goat is probably the closest thing to a rock band Intonal has ever booked, but their reductive take on the genre makes Goat stand out. In their percussive songs, they mute the melodic instruments to reinforce the beat, and make frequent use of harmonics played outside the twelve-tone. Recently reshaping the band, Goat have moved on to build compositions that explore rhythmic aspect even further, centring on intertwining patterns of repetitive rhythms. Goat just released their first vinyl LP, compromising of selected works from their previous albums, New Games and Rhythm and Sound. The titles of those releases provide a hint: a sense of joyful play within defined structures, and an emphasis on propulsive pulse and a prioritizing of pure percussive sound over melodic content.
